Guiding the Behavior of Young Children
Module 1: Understanding Behaviors and Building Relationships with Children
Overview
Welcome to the first module of "Guiding Behavior
of Young Children"! This course is part one of three courses developed by the
Building Bridges to Higher Education Project and STARS, and offered through
Puget Sound Educational Service District's Early Learning Outreach Program, and
community partners.
This class is designed to introduce students to
strategies that are developmentally appropriate for guiding children in an
early childhood environment. The strategies include techniques for guiding
children's behavior, strengthening relationship-focused care, and understanding
cultural relevance. Students also learn to individualize to meet the needs of
children. Using research, theory and practice, students develop action plans
for classroom management, indirect and direct guidance strategies,
communication skills for promoting positive behaviors and intervention
techniques for mistaken behaviors.
ELOP courses include the option of extra coaching time. It can be used for any purpose: academic, technical, or professional development. Extra coaching can be received via email, during a phone conversation, or as a face to face meeting. You also can ask your instructor to visit you at your work place, and provide observation-based coaching.
