What Child Care Staff Need to Know...

Welcome to the Bloodborne Pathogens course developed by the Child Care Health Program of Public Health - Seattle & King County and Puget Sound Educational Services District's Early Learning Outreach Program (ELOP).

This course is based upon Washington State  laws and regulations that pertain to child care and occupational health and safety.  Child care providers outside of Washington State should consult with their licensor for information specific to their state.  This course should be supplemented with an annual worksite-specific bloodborne pathogens update, provided by your employer.
The certificate of completion will be awarded through The Child Care Health Program of Public Health - Seattle & King County.

We highly recommend completing this course in one session It will take approximately two hours for successful course completion, including the quizzes and course evaluation.
You have the option to complete a section of the course and returning to finish all sections at a later time. Please be aware there is only one week to finish all sections of the course in order to successfully complete the course and be able to receive your certificate of completion. After one week, the partially completed sections will be deleted and you will have to start taking the course again.
Please follow carefully all course completion instructions. After each section you have to click I'VE COMPLETED THIS SECTION button to inform instructor about a completion of each section.

Your course work and assignments will all be completed online. Some of the course's reading materials are presented as links to PDF or RTF formatted documents. To be able to open a PDF format you will need an Adobe Acrobat Reader. RTF documents can be opened in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, or your computer Notepad (see under Accessories).

The Bloodborne Pathogens course consists of Introduction, 3 Learning Sections, and Evaluation:

  • Introduction
  • Section 1: Hepatitis
  • Section 2: HIV/AIDS
  • Section 3: Special Considerations for Child Care Settings
  • Evaluation

Each section may include:

Course Pre and Post Tests, checklists of knowledge and practice on the topic
Lectures, written description of the course content
Additional materials or links, to gain more knowledge about the topic
Quizzes, to assess your new knowledge
Reflection questions, to self-assess your learning process
